China is just a couple meals away... Given the size of the country, all the regions within the country, and the infinite number of menu possibilities - I feel lost! Please post your comments and let me know what YOU think I should cook for our dinner in China.
Hi Erin, I googled "Cuisine of China" and read all about the basic "8 Cuisines" - very interesting! Perhaps you could choose two cuisines that
ReplyDeleteappeal to you (in terms of history, ingredients, method of preparation??) in order to narrow it down. I agree, this is very difficult - but you have a terrific knack for making great menu choices! Good luck - can't wait to read all about it! XO Nan
I say go big. Roast Duck (Peking Duck) with scallion pancakes, and some kind of pork dumplings. Or maybe a Szechuan hot pot. Nan is right, you could do a few nights of Chinese cuisine to get a good sampling of the different flavors. I wouldn't recommend Thousand Year-Old Eggs, by the way.

dumplings, crab rangoons, eggrolls... something from the pu pu platter :)
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a few days in China...big country, lots of options. Or, the pu pu platter idea is a good one, a sampler of sorts. As long as the pu pu does not lead to poo poo.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, cool blog, I will be returning! I love Chinese food. When I was little, actually, it may have been before I was born, my dad took Chinese cooking classes. We lived in East Montpelier VT, where there were not a many quality chinese restaurants. So, my dad cooked a lot of chinese dishes, but the one I looked forward to the most was Mushu Pork. That would be my suggestion, though I've never cooked it myself. The thin pancakes are the key. I look forward to reading how it goes!
